Pragati, one of the oldest Bengali organizations on the East Coast, is dedicated to promoting unity and cultural enrichment within the Greater Philadelphia Bengali community. Having recently celebrated our 50th anniversary, we continue to honor our heritage through the organization of diverse cultural, religious, and charitable events. We strive to support educational and healthcare initiatives, and make a positive impact both within and beyond our community. Pragati believes in inclusivity and extends a warm welcome to people from all backgrounds to participate in our events. By nurturing young talent and fostering community involvement, we aim to build a legacy of cultural pride, compassion, and progress for future generations. ফিলাডেলফিয়ায় বাজে ‘প্রগতির’ সুর, ষোলআনা বাঙালির প্রবাসে শারদোৎসব পঞ্চাশ বর্ষে
In 1972, Pragati, the Bengali Association of the Greater Philadelphia area was formed by the Bengalis of this area, and it was incorporated as a not-for-profit association in 1977. Currently, Pragati has nearly 80 life members and over 200 regular members and friends.
Pragati, being a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization, has a charitable obligation towards the greater community that we live in. Actually, it is not just an obligation – it is part of Pragati’s mission as specified in the constitution.
Different executive committees in the past have raised funds for helping people during different disasters and carried out Pragati’s charitable work on an ongoing basis.Pragati has also started food donation drive, cash donations and donation of a good amount of non-perishable food items. Through our members support we have proved that we care and feel for the plight of the less fortunate citizens of the area. We have received encouragements to continue this work.
The oldest Bengali Organization of Delaware Valley, serving Greater Philadelphia area. PRAGATI has been a home away from home for many of us for the last 45+ years. We are proud of our tradition and welcome everybody with open arms. Please join us and be part of it!!!
— As we honor the cultural heritage of Bengal, let’s also embrace the spirit of compassion and community service. In Pragati’s 51st Durgotsav 2025, in association with the Council of Indian Organizations in Greater Philadelphia (CIO), we proudly present the "Annapurna" Food Drive — a charitable mission to nourish hearts and homes alike.
Let’s make this Durga Puja a celebration of community, culture, and compassion. Together, we can feed more than just bellies — we can nourish souls.
